Where is the battery in my 2004 Cadillac Deville?

Finding the battery was a situation that had me stumped for a second trying to find my battery in my 2004 Cadillac Deville. I did not have to take it to a repair shop to find out where the location of my battery was, on a positive note. But this is something that every Cadillac Deville owner should know just in case you ever need to access your battery for any reason.

The battery in a 2004 Cadillac Deville is under the rear seat. The battery is held in by a battery clamp and is situated under the back seat so it can vent and be stable during vehicle movement.

The let’s know more about the location and the importance of this location on our Cadillac Deville so we can better understand.

When do I need to replace the battery in my 2004 Cadillac Deville?

It is suggested that you replace your battery as scheduled preventive maintenance every three years. Once a battery gets to the four to the five-year mark, it is no longer reliable due to the wear and tears over time. Most vehicle batteries are sealed batteries, which means you cannot add additional battery acid over time to lengthen the lifespan of your battery.

I would not say this is a buying point if a vehicle, which I did see in my research that some people will buy a car because of its battery.

That is pointless to me due to the price of a battery on average being $80-$150 compared to the cost of the vehicle being tens of thousands. Think about it like your cell phone, the lifespan of the battery dissipates the more you use it.

This is normal when it comes to batteries due to the battery acid losing its consistency. Also, for all those that live in cold climate areas, it is highly suggested that you have a battery blanket or a battery warmer. Batteries are already dangerous, but when they become frozen, they are highly dangerous.

In the case that you have a frozen battery, do not try to charge or jumpstart the battery. This can cause the battery to explode and severely injure you. You can tell the battery is frozen because the sides of the battery will be swollen and bulging out of the side battery walls.

When you are testing the battery, do not use a multimeter. Using a multimeter will only tell you the surface charge of the battery, not what the battery is at when it is under a load.

When you are starting your vehicle, this is putting a load on the battery. You want to know this is the voltage when diagnosing your charging system. So in this situation, we are going to use a load tester, this tool will tell you what your battery voltage is at under load. For a twelve volt battery, our battery should be able to maintain a minimum of 9.6 volts for fifteen seconds.

If the battery does not hold this minimum voltage for the allotted time, then the battery is bad and needs to be replaced. In the case that the battery does hold the minimum charge for the allotted time, then the battery is good and is operational.

Why do I need to replace the battery in my 2004 Cadillac Deville?

You need to keep the battery in your vehicle great at all times because the battery is the magic maker. Your battery makes everything work like it is supposed to. Think about it like this, when you want to start your vehicle the engine pulls the energy from the battery to crank the engine for the 1st time.

Your vehicle’s computer needs to make sure it has the right fuel to air ratio for the combustion process. The computer pulls that voltage from the vehicle’s battery to do this.

Without the proper amount of energy, the vehicle’s computer will not work. So the battery is more than just the thing that makes the vehicle start; it is the root of all that happens in the vehicle, so make sure it is operational and safe.

How do I replace the battery in my 2004 Cadillac Deville?

Go to your rear seat, and on both sides of the seat. You will find there is a pressure clip holding the seat down. Firmly grasp the bottom of the seat and pull up on one side at a time. This will free your seat from its transport position after you have done this to both sides. You can move the seat out of your way.

Now you can see the battery, and you are going to use a thirteen-millimeter wrench to take off the battery hold-down bracket. Then you need to get an eight-millimeter wrench and loosen the negative terminal on your battery first. Remove the negative (black cable) terminal then do the same to the positive (red cable) terminal.

Have you ever looked into the advantages of spending more on your brake pads? Don’t worry, I have and what I found is here in my article.

When reinstalling the battery, you will put the positive (red cable) side on first then the negative (black cable) side on last. When placing your seat back in you need to make sure that, the bracket is seated and reinstalled correctly. The clips at the bottom of the seat need to go back into the same position as well.

Where do I replace the battery in my 2004 Cadillac Deville?

For this repair you can replace your battery in your 2004 Cadillac Deville anywhere you want to. If you do not feel comfortable with the repair, then let an automotive repair shop replace the battery for you or where ever you purchased the new battery. Always remember that the negative (black cable) terminal comes off of the battery first then followed by the power (red cable) side.

If you do not take them off in this order, you can cause the battery to send a shock through your charging system, and it can blow a fuse, so be careful. The battery is an essential part of your vehicle that many people forget about until the battery is dead.
