8 Reasons Why an F-150 is a Great First Truck

That is a legacy truck line right there if you have never seen one. The F-150 a half-ton option from Ford that dates back to the first year of production in 1948. Ever since the first truck rolled off of the factory floor, Ford knew this would be revolutionary for the industry.

Over the years we have seen this F series truck help teens find their way to school, it has helped the small business owner transport stock, and has contributed parents with transporting groceries and soccer teams to the field.

This is, in fact, a game-changer in the truck industry and here are 5 reasons why the F150 is a great first truck!

Tow Capacity

The price of these trucks is a bargain when you are purchasing new off the lot. But if you are buying a used vehicle from someone else, then you are getting a steal!

The towing capacity on these trucks is incredible! On the base fleet model, you are looking at a 9,400 lb. Tow capacity but if you get an FX4 model with the EcoBoost engine, you can beef up to 16,000 lb. Tow capacity!

Not too bad for a half-ton truck. There is still room for improvement, depending on what you are wanting to tow with your truck. But overall this is a great truck to start with for a price tag under $12,000.

I know when I used mine, the truck was able to handle the load smoothly and still kept the nice gentle ride in the cab.

Trim Packages

This is ideal for any vehicle, but Ford especially has numerous trim packages you can choose from depending on your own personal taste.

This is great because all truck enthusiasts have different tastes, and this was Ford’s way to make it a more universal truck instead of one particular person or category kind of truck.

Performance Options

All Ford trucks have numerous performance options you can choose from whether you are purchasing a used vehicle or a brand new truck right off the car lot.

I am a big fan of the EcoBoost engine, bit was very hesitant at first because it is a smaller engine, but the twin turns really make up for the smaller engine, boost for the win!

Comfortable Cab

43.6 inches in the 2018 F150 that is how much space you have for legroom in the backseat of this truck! They have videos of people that are 6 foot 5 inches tall and sitting comfortably in the back.

Do you know what that says to me? That this truck can last you for years to come if you take care of it by doing the scheduled maintenance of your vehicle.

I am leaning towards the leather material, but that is just me. The inside of the King Ranch model is like sitting on a leather couch in a log cabin. Ford has really done this legacy line a great favor and is going for greatness!

All the Gadgets

From the snow plow prep set up to the heated mirrors and seats. Ford is keeping up with its competitors with this model, and each year they keep getting better and better.

You have the choice of having a touch screen with GPS, as I said this vehicle can last through most people’s lives. You want a sound system they have that and more!

Ford, of course, still has Microsoft Sync built into their vehicles, and it has been upgrading every year as well.

Buying a used vehicle can be difficult at times if you do not know what to look for. Check out my article 11 Critical Things to Look for When Buying a Used Vehicle.

Mechanical Accessibility

The mechanical accessibility of this vehicle is outstanding. Whether you want to keep it like the factory gave to you or you want to make some modifications to your vehicle the F150 can handle them both.

It also looks stunning when it does have some modifications done to it. The Ecoboost engine can handle anything you throw at it.

Didn’t you see the torture test on YouTube that ford put it through when doing their trial tests? Make sure you watch that video because it will explain why this article is necessary for the F150.

This legacy truck line has been the blade’s edge into the future for trucks across the industry.

Most bolt-on modifications for this vehicle is no more than an intermediate mechanic level to complete the installations, which is fantastic for all us DIY backyard mechanics!

Pricing

The more I looked into the pricing, the more I was wanting to price one out for myself! I was able to price out a few of the models, and it seems like the truck holds its value quite well.

You can get a 2012 model for less than $12,000, which is impressive for all the first-time truck owners.

This does make me wonder how well does the F150 holds its market value according to other trucks like the Tundra, Ram 1500, and Silverado.

This will tell us the value of our truck over a specific time frame, but the rule of thumb for depreciation values of trucks is that it loses 20 percent of its value in the first year with additional loss of 15 percent every year after then until it stops at 10 percent of its original cost according to research.

Well, that is too bad for those that want to get their money back after years of hard use on their truck.

Unless you have the original F150 from 1948 looking to auction it off, most truck owners get their value from the use they put into their truck. In my opinion from the price you originally purchased the truck at and the purpose that you put into the vehicle the price is well worth it, and you definitely get your money’s worth out of the F150!

Exterior Possibilities

This is where it gets fun for many people, you can change the look of your F150 in so many different ways. Do you want your F150 to become a Baja truck?

Maybe you want it to be a lifted mudding vehicle? There is always the option of having it become armored for anything you run into in the sticks, the possibilities are endless, and you don’t have to have a degree to work on this truck!

It is always vital to keep your vehicle running strong for you for years to come. Check out my article highlighting the 12 Crucial Maintenance Things to Check on your vehicle to keep your vehicle running strong for you!

In Conclusion

We can all agree that where the F150 was in the ’90s compared to the present day is a night and day difference.

The towing capacity to the customization options in this vehicle is astounding, which puts the F150 as a flagship model for not only Ford but for the truck industry altogether!
