7 Easy Places to Find Used Car Parts for Cheap

Who doesn’t want to find cheap used car parts for their vehicle? Have you ever checked the prices on parts you need for your car, then check the price the automotive repair shop is going to charge you for part and labor? I will tell you now the amount is astounding!

I was quoted by a local shop for one engine mount on a 2003 Cadillac Deville, and they wanted to charge me $120 for the mount then $600 for labor!!!! Talk about a jaw-dropping conversation there! I was able to get the engine mount for $10 at a Pick N Pull and install it myself. $720 vs. $10 what would you like to pay? So let’s go through this great list of 7 easy places to find used car parts for cheap.

Have you ever looked into the advantages of spending more on your brake pads? Don’t worry, I have and what I found is here in my article.

Pick N Pull

Pick N Pull has to be one of the busiest places in every city it is. What you would do is go to the location, walk in and tell them what vehicle you are needing. The person behind the counter will give you a list of the cars you want to check for your part.

Remember when it comes to used parts that you can find that part on other vehicles if they cross-matched other cars for the same engine or other vehicle components. A great example would be when I was looking for a water pump crossover housing on a 2003 Cadillac Deville. Now if we purchase the part and say it is for a Cadillac, it seems like everyone wants to charge more because it is a Cadillac part.

You can find the same part on an Oldsmobile Aurora as well which people forget sometimes, and by doing this, you will get a lower price for the part. That is the great thing about Pick N Pull; their staff is very informed and experienced. So if you need a part and they know they can find it on another make and model they will put it on your list so you can find the part.

In the case that you need a more substantial vehicle component like an engine or transmission, they will pull it out of the old car themselves, so you do not have to. The rules at Pick N Pull do not allow jacks and lifts of any kind. Using jacks increase the chance of injury and to protect themselves and their business they say so not bring them. Overall this is a great place, and I will continue being a patron of theirs for years to come.

eBay

eBay takes me back to my High School days, which was quite a while ago. I was able to make $800 in a single week by just selling used car parts online! So if I was able to do that back then, you know it is a lot more popular now. I enjoy looking on eBay to match prices with what I am finding off of eBay. With this option, you are not just limited to one supplier, which means the highest savings for you.

Facebook Marketplace

I just found this one not too long ago. I was not too sure about how business-oriented people would be on Facebook, and if I could find anything, I needed on there as well. The crazy part is that I use the Facebook marketplace more than any of the other options out there now.

I purchase most of my vehicles on Facebook, and I can find parts easily on there as well. Facebook Marketplace adds the marketing channels that you can use for your own business. Facebook does not charge any money to post onto the marketplace, which is cool, especially since eBay and Craigslist still charge to post things for sale on there.

Of course, for Craigslist, it depends on what selection you make if it charges or not. So this is a big thumbs up from me and if you haven’t used the marketplace yet I highly recommend you go check it out.

Junkyard

A Junkyard is a great way to find used parts that have worked for decades and generation after generation of backyard mechanics. I do not count Pick N Pull as a junkyard; I count them as a salvage yard. Pick N Pull even put into their mission statement that they do not want to be considered as a traditional junkyard.

They count themselves as a self-service used auto parts store, that provides quality parts and has been for over 30 years now. I would have to agree they are quite different than the traditional junkyard and why I keep junkyard’s as a last resort to find the part I am needing.

A junkyard does not care about the quality of the piece. The experience I have had with them is that they want to sell the part to make money, no matter the condition. So from that, I will keep them as a last resort.

Partsmarket.com

This site I have not been able to order from yet. I did see excellent reviews about their website, and I even went on the site to see how easy it is to navigate. I found that this site is easy to navigate and find all the used parts you are looking to find. I did like that they have multiple suppliers of the parts you are looking to find as well.

This is not just limited to the area you live or are searching in. If you see a part on there that you want and it’s not close to you, you do have the choice to get it shipped to you which I found that cool. Of course, if you haven’t updated into the internet age by now, there is a good chance that you will be forced to close your businesses doors.

Ordering online is the future, and people are even busier now then what they were years ago, so overall I liked this site, and I will be ordering from them soon.

Facebook groups

Groups are one option that I need to do more online. Facebook groups are a powerful weapon to have in your arsenal. People love communities, and they want to be a part of them. So if you have not joined a Facebook group yet, you need to check them out.

I joined some local yard and garage sale groups, so when our business has a new vehicle for sale, you can post on there and in the Facebook Marketplace. Both do not charge for posting but a pivotal tip to learn for Facebook groups; make sure you read the group’s rules. Some groups do not want you posting unless you meet requirements A and B. Other groups do not care when you post, so it is all up to the admins on that group.

Car-part.com

This site is very similar to partsmarket.com, and I found that this site as well was elementary to navigate. This site did have different vendors than its competition, and they also seemed to pride themselves for excellent user experience while on their website. I will be ordering from this site in the future as well just so I can tell which site is better to use and which one was faster on getting us the parts we need, I will write an article on that as well so keep an eye out for that one!

There are many options we have when it comes to finding the right part for your project. Whether it be a rebuild of an old school hot rod or repairing to pass inspection, all of us are drawn to our vehicles in one way or another. So make sure you are up to date on your maintenance with your car, that way all of your hard work and money you are putting into your vehicle will last you for years to come.
